Why choose Switzerland for your cycling holiday?

Switzerland is a cyclist’s dream, offering an incredible variety of landscapes in a surprisingly compact area. In a single trip, you can pedal from vineyard-lined lakes to the foothills of snow-capped peaks. The country boasts an extensive network of over 11,000 kilometers of well-marked cycling routes, known as the Veloland Schweiz network, ensuring safe and seamless travel. Drivers are respectful of cyclists, and the infrastructure is designed for two wheels, with bikes welcome on most public transport. This combination of stunning natural beauty, safety, and pristine organization makes it a premier destination for active travelers.

How do our self-guided cycling trips work?

A self guided tour in Europe with Grand Angle is designed to give you ultimate freedom while ensuring complete peace of mind. We take care of all the logistics: comfortable accommodations, daily luggage transfers, detailed route notes, and reliable GPS tracks. You simply focus on the pleasure of the ride, pedaling at your own pace and stopping whenever a scenic viewpoint or charming village catches your eye. Our team is always available for support, combining the independence you crave with the expert backing you can trust.

Practical advice for your Swiss cycling adventure

When is the best time to go?

The ideal season for cycling in Switzerland is from late spring to early autumn, typically from May to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, mountain passes are generally open, and the landscapes are lush and vibrant. Summer months like July and August offer the warmest temperatures, perfect for enjoying a refreshing dip in the lakes after your ride. Spring and autumn provide cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, with the added beauty of spring blossoms or golden autumn foliage.

What should I pack for my trip?

Packing effectively is key to a comfortable cycling trip. Layered clothing is essential to adapt to changing weather conditions, including a waterproof and windproof jacket. Padded cycling shorts, comfortable jerseys, and sturdy footwear are a must. Don’t forget sun protection, including sunscreen, sunglasses, and a helmet. For more detailed suggestions, check out our comprehensive bike trip packing list to ensure you have everything you need for the journey.

Explore further from Switzerland

Travelers who enjoy the pristine organization and stunning lake-and-mountain scenery of our Austria bike tour options will find similar appeal in Switzerland. The blend of German, French, and Italian cultural influences also makes it a fantastic gateway to further European adventures. If you enjoy the lakeside paths of Lake Constance, consider cycling the famous Passau to Vienna bike tour along another of Europe’s great rivers. For those drawn to the alpine views, exploring the peaks on foot with our Alps hiking tours is a perfect complement to a cycling holiday, offering a different perspective on the same majestic landscapes. —  A first time for non-sportsmen, it was risky! But it all worked out lol! The route was very well explained, and the application was top-notch. The last day we tested the train at the end of the day, and everything was accessible to bikes! We only had 4 days vacation (family constraints) and couldn't do any sightseeing … but the 7-day version should really allow it. We had no prior physical preparation, so of course we discovered some new muscles, but nothing serious! The Arbr hotel is really very, very good. In short, a great adventure!!!! 💜

—  A wonderful trip. We were also blessed with gorgeous weather, which added to our enchantment with this splendid region that none of the six of us had visited before. We regretted not being able to take advantage of a more convenient half-board option, as we had during our previous stay with Grand Angle.
