Why choose France for your active holiday?

France is a premier destination for hiking and cycling, thanks to its incredibly varied terrain and rich cultural heritage. You can challenge yourself on the alpine trails of the legendary Tour du Mont Blanc, pedal through the prestigious vineyards of Burgundy, follow the historic canals like the Canal du Midi, or breathe in the fresh sea air along the Vélomaritime in Brittany. Each region offers a unique identity, blending natural wonders with historical discoveries and gastronomic delights.

Our hiking and cycling trips in France

Whether you are a seasoned trekker or a casual cyclist, our itineraries are designed to offer the best of each region, with carefully selected routes and comfortable accommodations.

Cycling tours: explore France’s iconic routes

Our bike tours in France are designed to let you discover the country at your own pace. Ride through the fairy-tale castles of the Loire Valley, follow the wild Atlantic coast along the Vélodyssée, or explore the canal paths from Bordeaux to Toulouse. Each trip is a promise of freedom and discovery, with the option to travel light thanks to our luggage transfer service.

Hiking and trekking: between mountains and coastal paths

For lovers of walking, our hiking tours in France offer exceptional panoramas and varied challenges. Embark on an adventure in the heart of the French Alps with treks around Chamonix or through the pristine nature of the Vercors plateau, our home region. These routes, available in guided or self-guided versions, are an invitation to reconnect with nature.

How do our tours work?

At Grand Angle, we believe that a successful trip is one that suits you. That’s why we offer two distinct travel styles to meet your desire for freedom or guidance.

The freedom of a self-guided trip

Opt for a self-guided walking tour in France or a cycling trip and travel at your own pace. We take care of all the logistics: booking charming accommodations, transferring your luggage, and providing a detailed roadbook with maps and points of interest. This formula allows you to enjoy your days with complete autonomy and serenity, with the assurance of our support if needed.

The conviviality of a guided group tour

Join a guided walking tour to share a unique experience with other enthusiasts. Led by a professional and passionate local guide, you will discover the hidden secrets of each region in a friendly and secure atmosphere. This is the ideal option for those who wish to be fully guided, enrich their knowledge, and share memorable moments.

Practical advice for your active trip to France

When is the best time to go?

The best time for your active holiday depends on the region. Spring, from April to June, is ideal for cycling in most regions, with pleasant temperatures and blooming nature. Summer is perfect for tackling mountain trails in the Alps or the Pyrenees. Autumn, particularly September and October, offers magnificent colors and milder weather, perfect for hiking or cycling in regions like Burgundy or the Loire Valley.

What should you pack for your trip?

Preparation is key to a successful active holiday. For your walking adventures, a good pair of hiking shoes, layered clothing, and a quality backpack are essential. For cycling trips, remember to bring comfortable cycling shorts and check our recommendations. To help you prepare, consult our detailed guides on what to include in your day hiking pack and how to prepare your bike trip panniers.

—  I had a truly unique and wonderful experience—it was a complete success in every way. Thierry is a great guide, and the group was fantastic. The routes we took allowed us to see some amazing sights. It was an extraordinary experience, both physically and socially, that’s definitely worth having.

—  This was one of the best trips of my life!! Views were SPECTACULAR, 3 course dinners and picnic lunches were amazingly good, our guide was perfect and although the trip was physically hard, every day was enjoyable accomplishing our hiking goal and meeting friendly people along the way❤️

—  A truly beautiful route. The Vercors in all its splendor and diversity. The progression in difficulty—both in terms of effort and technique—is perfect, and the accommodations, featuring a pool and excellent dining, are top-notch. The e-MTBs are of very high quality. The only minor suggestion for the app: include an alternative route at the exit from Valchivière, as the pedestrian path leading uphill is a bit tricky—it’s only 200 meters long in total, so it’s a very minor issue.

—  A guide who knows the subject inside and out and is a good listener. Excellent group management, with alternative routes planned whether there are any hiccups or not—that’s really appreciated.
