Crete is a paradise for hikers, a miniature continent of diverse landscapes. From the legendary Samaria Gorge to the pristine beaches of the south coast, the island offers an incredible variety of trails. You’ll walk through ancient olive groves, charming white-washed villages, and rugged mountains, all under the warm Mediterranean sun. This is a journey through landscapes that have shaped myths and millennia of history.
Opting for a guided tour in Europe with Grand Angle means choosing serenity and expertise. Our local guides are passionate about their island and will lead you along the most beautiful and often little-known paths. We take care of all the logistics: accommodation, luggage transfers between stages, and most meals are included. You travel in a small, friendly group, sharing the experience with other walking enthusiasts. Discover our approach to guided tours in Greece, designed for your peace of mind.
The Cretan Odyssey is our quintessential guided tour to uncover the island’s wild soul. This trek takes you through the spectacular gorges of the south, including the famous Samaria Gorge, and along the stunning coastal paths of the Libyan Sea. It’s a complete immersion into the island’s most authentic and preserved landscapes, combining challenging hikes with moments of relaxation and cultural discovery.
The ideal seasons for hiking in Crete are spring and autumn. From April to June, the island is in full bloom, with pleasant temperatures and lush landscapes. From September to November, the summer heat has subsided, the sea is still warm, and the trails are quieter. We generally advise against hiking in July and August due to the intense heat, especially in the gorges.
For a comfortable experience, preparation is key. Good hiking boots with ankle support are essential, as are lightweight, breathable clothing and layers for cooler evenings. Don’t forget sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), a reusable water bottle, and of course, your camera. For a comprehensive list of what to bring, check out our guide on creating the perfect day hike packing list.
Travelers who fell in love with the rugged beauty of our hiking tours in Crete often continue their exploration in other parts of the country. Consider an island-hopping adventure with our hiking trip in the Cyclades, where you can discover the unique character of each island. If you enjoy combining activities, our bike tours in Greece offer another fantastic way to experience its stunning scenery. For a similar blend of coastal paths and mountain landscapes, our hiking tours in Cinque Terre or the lush trails of our Madeira hiking trips are excellent alternatives.

— We are very happy with the itinerary and with the hike itself, which crosses magnificent landscapes and offers various options to take shortcuts by boat at certain points. The hotels chosen are good and comfortable, except the one in Omalos, which is now dated and not very well maintained (we had stayed there in 2013 and nothing has changed). Everywhere the reception and service staff were friendly, warm, efficient, and full of good advice.
