The TLS protocol guarantees the confidentiality of communications between applications and their users on the Internet. When a server and a client communicate, the TLS protocol ensures that no third party can eavesdrop on or modify the messages. TLS is the successor to the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.
3D Secure authenticates the cardholder before the transaction is finalized, thus protecting you against the risk of the cardholder disputing the transaction.
3D Secure is a program created by international issuers Visa (Verified By Visa) and Mastercard (Mastercard Secure Code) to enhance the security of online payments. It is based on the introduction of an additional check during online purchases: in addition to bank details, the buyer is asked to enter personal data enabling the bank to identify him or her and validate the transaction. This is not a guarantee of payment, but a security measure designed to reduce the risk of unpaid invoices being issued because the cardholder contests the transaction.

This system is accompanied by a regulatory change known as “liability shift”. The principle is to shift the risk of unpaid invoices issued for cardholder disputes from the merchant to the cardholder's bank, if the cardholder has validated his or her payment by entering personal data, if the cardholder's bank has validated this authentication, and if the merchant has complied with the security measures set out in the general terms and conditions of sale of his or her Sogenactif contract.
