Before the trip: cancellation insurance

Like all travel agencies, Grand Angle applies cancellation conditions, which are detailed in the terms and conditions of sale:

  • If you cancel your trip, Grand Angle will only partially refund you.
  • If you have taken out cancellation insurance, it will reimburse the amounts withheld by Grand Angle… subject to certain conditions!

Where to subscribe?
  • At the time of booking, through Grand Angle, which has negotiated coverage with Xplorassur tailored to the activities/destinations offered; the proposed policy also includes trip interruption costs in the event of medical repatriation.
  • Through the airline or the SNCF (French Railways) if you purchase your travel separately.
  • Via certain high-end bank cards (Visa Premier, Mastercard Gold, etc.): please note, these only cover the amount paid with the card and only the cardholder + certain relatives. In the case of a group of friends, each person must pay for their entire trip with their own card. Bank card insurance guarantees are less comprehensive than those offered by Grand Angle.
  • Through specialized insurance companies.

Good to know
  • Grand Angle acts as an intermediary between Xplorassur and you: once the cancellation insurance policy is taken out, Xplorassur becomes your main point of contact.
  • In all cases, request and read the terms of coverage, and ask for clarification on anything you do not understand.
  • In the event of cancellation for justified medical reasons, or for incidents affecting close family, cancellation insurance generally provides good coverage.
  • For other cases of cancellation, it is essential to look at the details of your insurance policy; there is often a deductible.
  • The concept of "pre-existing condition": if you already suffer from a pathology when you take out the cancellation insurance and you cancel because of it, you will not be reimbursed. It is therefore essential to take out cancellation insurance very early.
  • The concept of "stabilized pre-existing condition": you have an illness (cancer, for example), but your condition is considered stable and non-evolving: you will be covered if you have to cancel due to an aggravation of the disease.
  • Cancellation insurance generally covers you if you must cancel because the condition of your father or mother requires your presence. Be careful regarding the concept of "pre-existing condition," whether stabilized or not.
  • Cancellation insurance begins the moment cancellation fees are withheld by the agency and ends at the scheduled start time of the trip.
  • Grand Angle cancellation insurance only covers what was booked through them (and therefore not the travel to the meeting point).
  • Registration fees and administrative processing fees are not reimbursed by cancellation insurance.
  • The cost of the cancellation insurance itself is obviously never reimbursed, neither by Grand Angle nor by the insurance company!

How and when to report a cancellation to the insurance company?
  • It is up to you to contact the insurance company and provide the requested documents. Grand Angle remains at your disposal to assist you.
  • You must report the cancellation in the days following the triggering event (the deadline varies by insurance company) and at the same time you report the cancellation to Grand Angle. A simple email to the insurance company is often enough to register the date the claim was opened. Important! For the application of cancellation conditions, Grand Angle takes into account the date of your written notification.
  • You will find all the information necessary for the claim on your insurance policies.
  • Upon receipt of your declaration, the insurance company will send you a file to complete and request specific documents; some will be provided by Grand Angle, such as the cancellation fee invoice. The more closely you follow the insurance company's instructions, the faster your claim will be settled.
