Before the trip : trip cancellation insurance
Like all travel agencies, Grand Angle applies cancellation terms & conditions, which are defined by the terms & conditions of sale:
- If you cancel your trip, Grand Angle will only partially reimburse you.
- If you have taken out cancellation insurance, it will reimburse the sums normally withheld by Grand Angle, under certain conditions!
Where can I buy this type of insurance?
- When you register, with Grand Angle, which has negotiated with Assurinco to have coverage tailored to the activities/destinations it offers; the policy also includes trip interruption costs in the event of medical repatriation.
- With the airline or transportation company if you purchase your trip separately.
- Through certain bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.): please note that these usually only cover the amount paid with the card, and covers only the cardholder and certain close relations. In the case of a group of friends, each person will have to pay for the entire trip with his or her own card. Credit card insurance policies are less comprehensive than the policies offered by Grand Angle/Assurinco.
- Contact specialized travel insurance companies.
What you need to know
- Grand Angle acts as an intermediary between you and Assurinco: from the moment you take out a cancellation insurance policy, Assurinco is your contact.
- In all cases, ask for and read the conditions of your policy coverage, and ask to have anything you don't understand explained to you.
- Cancellation insurance generally covers you well for cancellations on justified medical grounds, or for losses affecting close family members.
- For other cancellations, it's essential to check the terms and conditions of your insurance policy in detail; there is often a deductible.
- The notion of "previous illness": if you are already suffering from a condition when you take out cancellation insurance, and you cancel because of this, you will not be reimbursed.
- The notion of "consolidated prior illness": you have an illness (cancer, for example), but your condition is considered stable and not evolving: you will be covered, if you have to cancel due to aggravation of the illness.
- Cancellation insurance generally covers you if you have to cancel because a parent's medical condition requires your presence. Be careful with the notion of "previous illness", whether consolidated or not.
- Cancellation insurance starts from the moment cancellation fees are withheld by the agency, and ends at the scheduled start of the trip.
- Grand Angle cancellation insurance only covers what has been booked with Grand Angle (i.e. not the journey to the meeting point).
- Cancellation insurance does not reimburse registration fees or deductions for administration fees.
- The cost of cancellation insurance is never reimbursed, neither by Grand Angle nor by the insurance company!
How and when do I declare a cancellation to the insurance company?
- It's up to you to contact the insurance company and provide the required documents. Grand Angle will be happy to help you.
- You must declare the cancellation within a few days of the event giving rise to the cancellation (the deadline varies according to the insurance company) and at the same time as you declare the cancellation to Grand Angle. A simple e-mail to the insurance company is often enough to confirm that the file has been opened. Please note! For the application of cancellation terms & conditions, Grand Angle takes into account the date of your letter/email; cancellation insurance takes into account the actual date of the event.
- Your insurance contracts provide all the information you need to make the declaration.
- On receipt of your declaration, the insurance company will send you a file to complete, and will ask you for specific documents; some of these will be supplied by Grand Angle, such as the invoice for cancellation fees. The more closely you follow the insurance company's instructions, the faster your claim will be settled.
